September Is Now Upon Us

Sorry, this was a trial. And error obviously. Unless you haven’t caught up on For You Alone. It’s waiting.
Now, me back to messing with my blog. And you doing something important!

Again, sorry to bother you. SK

Here are some key details:

  • Scott married Charlotte Carpenter in 1797. She was the daughter of a French royalist who had fled to England during the revolution.
  • Together, Scott and Charlotte had four children: Sophia, Walter, Anne, and Charles.
  • Charlotte fell ill with illness in 1826 and died in May of that year. Scott was deeply affected by her death.
  • In February 1815 specifically, Scott had been married to Charlotte Carpenter for approximately 18 years already.
  • At the time, the couple lived together in Edinburgh for part of the year and spent summers at their country estate called Abbotsford in the Scottish Borders.
  • Scott was also still working as a lawyer and writer in 1815, before his novels such as Waverly later made him internationally famous.

So in summary, in February of 1815, when Scott was 44 years old, he was very much a married man and husband to Charlotte Carpenter, his wife of almost two decades. He would remain married to her until her untimely death in 1826 at the age of 61.

For You Alone

I am now publishing For You Alone on this blog. I will be putting up at least two chapters on Tuesday and Thursday each. As with None But You I will be posting the unedited version. All chapters will remain here until the novel is published. You know the drill, this work is from years ago, is undergoing revisions, and has been looked over by ProWritingAid and that’s about it. Read at your own risk.

So, about None But You …

IT’S AVAILABLE NOW!

It is no secret that I love the story of Persuasion’s Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliot. I am a sap when it comes to a story about second chances. I firmly believe we all have a fragmented relationship that we’d like to mend. These relationships don’t have to be romantic. In fact, mending romantic relationships without considering the condition of our present status could be awkward to say the least. However, I’m sure we all have a friendship or two that could use repair, and, no doubt, there are some problematic relationships that if put right would make family events more comfortable for everyone.

Another thing I love about Persuasion is that Jane Austen honestly portrayed Frederick as angry and petty when he returned. A lot of people are put off by his anger and the resulting thoughtless, near-attachment he finds himself involved in with Louisa Musgrove. I think it is realistic. And don’t think it is something ‘typically male.’ I’ve seen women who are peeved at the guy they care about hang all over someone they wouldn’t normally give the time of day to just so they can make a guy jealous. I haven’t got a lot of experience with romance—45-year vet of the marriage wars here—but if you want to see petty, watch me when the last Cheeto is at stake.

This is the first of a trilogy. The next volume of the series is due September 1. And volume 3 will drop October 1. If you are nervous about buying into an unfinished series, you can see I have a plan and unless the zombie apocalypse interferes, I’m sticking to it.

Moving forward …

I have removed None But You from my Substack. In fact, Substack got removed. If you have been a subscriber, you are released from the burden thereof. The individual chapters are still available HERE. I will leave them up for a week and then, POOF, they will be gone as I start working publishing the ebook and paperback. Thank you for the support and watch this space for news about For You Alone, book two of the Frederick Wentworth, Captain series.

Take care–SK

A Quick and Dirty Guide to the Site

Welcome to the home of Frederick Wentworth, Captain. I’ve made this guide to help you find the fiction you seek.

All the pages have a menu in the header that will lead you to the various pages for the novels actively posting or where to buy the novels when they ‘go live.’

But here is a set of links that will get you where you want to go:

Frederick Wentworth, Captain > This page is a synopsis of the series and links you to the None But You Index only.

NONE BUT YOU > This page is a synopsis of the novel and links you to the NBY Index, which links you to the first page of None But You As of today, June 22, 2023, None But You is available to read, in its entirety, for free. I will put a notice up when it is published and will not longer be available.

FOR YOU ALONE > This page is a synopsis of the novel and links you to the FYA Index page, which links you to the first page of For You Alone As of today, June 22, 2023, For You Alone is not yet available to read online.

A WORD, A LOOK > This page is a synopsis of the novel and links to the AWAL Index, which links to the first chapter of A WORD, A LOOK. As of today, June 22, 2023, A Word A Look is not available to read online.

FOR TRUE FANS is a page with silliness and out-of-the-norm writing of mine. I will be adding to it over time. Some of it is funny and some is dark. I do not write anything sexually explicit, but I also do not write work that is all sunshine and daisies. The are explanations on each post so you can decide for yourself.
